Many good students struggle in school despite hard work and good intentions. Individual tutoring can help students improve their grades and understanding.

School is challenging. That's the way it's supposed to be. Students learn best when they are challenged.

Sometimes, however, even good students struggle with their studies. And because learning builds upon itself, students who fall behind often fall even further behind as time goes on. Eventually, many of these students simply give up and stop believing in themselves.

In addition, system-wide changes in the way mathematics is taught, such as the recently-adopted New York State EngageNY Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) in Mathematics, require students to re-align their learning along the lines of the new standards. Some youngsters need some help with this.

Other students actually are doing pretty well in math, but they want to do even better. These young people understand that business, science, technology, and engineering all require advanced math skills, and they want to master mathematics in order to make themselves more "college-ready" and to enhance their future professional lives. Make no mistake about it: People who have really mastered math will always be in demand.

Whether students need remedial math tutoring or want to learn advanced mathematics, helping students master math is where I come in. I have more than two decades of experience as a teacher, corporate trainer, and tutor, and I've learned how to connect and bond with students who are struggling. Using my own experiences as examples, I establish a bond with the student and become a learning mentor, not just a tutor.

In addition to tutoring in specific areas such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, I also provide training in general study skills including time management, active listening, and organization to all of my students. These skills will help them succeed in their studies for all of their academic lives.

I provide individualized, in-home tutoring in math, reading and writing skills, and technology. My services include both remedial tutoring for students who have fallen behind, and enrichment for students who want to expand their skills beyond what is offered at their schools. I also provide tutoring for adult learners enrolled in online, correspondence, or other distance-education schools, as well as those who need to develop competency in specific, work-related math skills.

The tutoring services I provide include (but are not limited to):

I also can design customized programs to address specific areas of competency required for career advancement, professional licensing examinations, or specialized aptitude tests such as the the NCLEX-PN, NCLEX-RN, NET, RNEE, PSB, TEAS, or DET examinations.

Most importantly, I teach students that it's not all about improving their grades. It's about developing the ability to learn how to learn. This means understanding the logic and concepts behind what is being studied so future learning becomes natural and instinctive, rather than laborious and painful.

I provide tutoring in Northeastern Queens and most of Nassau County. Please call for more information if your town isn't listed below; or for any questions about how I can help you (or your child) reach your maximum academic potential, please contact me any time.
